Description snurfle 2004-05-16 23:49:57 UTC
The readme.txt file states quite clearly:

"In OpenOffice.org you can change the font used for screen display and
printing by replacing it with a different font installed on your system. This
can be done using the font replacement function. Choose Tools - Options -
OpenOffice.org - Font Replacement to access this function.

"To change the font of the OpenOffice.org user interface, you have to replace
the default font "Andale Sans UI" with another font and mark the "always"
setting for this replacement.

Yet the "Andale Sans UI" font does not appear in the drop-down list.

I found two times in the issues collection where this issue has been
resolved... one 'solution' was to manually type in "Andale Sans UI", and
select a suitable replacement. The other was to simply go to
the 'accessibility' section, and check "Use system font for user interface".

No reference on how to make this change appears in the help file, unless you
spend the time searching through all of the 'options' section. And nothing in
the help file makes reference to manually typing the name of a font, either.

Wouldn't it be fairly simple to just edit the 'readme.txt' file, instead of
leaving the instructions as they are?

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".

I rechecked this issue in Apache OpenOffice 4.0.0 (and AOO 3.4.0) on Windows 7.

1. readme.txt no longer mentions font replacement.

2. On my Windows 7 system, Andale Sans UI is not installed. When I go to Tools > Options > OpenOffice > Fonts, check "Apply replacement table" and inspect the drop-down list "Font", Andale Sans UI is not to be found (as expected, since the font is not installed).

3. Press F1 to open help, select the Find tab, search "font replacement" and select "Fonts" from the search results. The instructions for the drop-down lists "Font" and "Replace with" say: "Enter or select the name of the [font] (...)". In other words, they say that you can enter a font name.

So has this issue been overtaken by events? Should it be closed?
