Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 28417
Page preview destroys sheet selection
Last modified: 2014-07-03 06:21:44 UTC
Hi ! how to reproduce: type some data in sheet1, sheet2 and sheet3 (make sure that all sheets have at least 2 pages each) go to sheet1 open the print preview ctrl+down until the end of pages (here I think that make sense too that Ooo not go to sheet2, because I want to navigate only in sheet1 pages, but this is no the problem) ctrl+home ctrl+p (to open print dialog) leave "all" selected click Ok all sheets is printed, even if the "Print only selected sheet" is marked. I think that only sheet1's pages should be printed, not all sheet's pages And I don't know if go to sheet3, in print preview, make some diference, but... thanx Hwoarang
confirming with 1.1.1 linux build .. _<_ 1.1.2 reporters build. entered a value in just one cell per sheet (-> only 1 page per sheet contrary where reporter said 2 pages are needed per sheet).
Hi Niklas, is it your's ? If not please re-assign to the correct developer. Frank
I believe meaning of the "Print only selected sheets" field requires some additional clarification. Standard print window under Windows already contains "selection only" field which make additional "Print only selected sheets" confusing - at first I thought I was setting an attribute for the document, not for current operation. Help is not helpfull as Options button and Options window are not described there (1.1.1). Besides, I believe standard behaviour should be to print only current sheet - or at least this should be configurable once and for all.
I had a similar problem in 1.1.2. You must change in the Tools-> option -> spreedsheet -> print and check the two boxes. But when you want to preview your futur print, you see all sheets in the preview and when you print in reality you print only the selected sheet.
When printing from the print dialog and "Print only selected sheets" is selected in options, all sheets are printed. Version 1.1.3 as of 9/24/2004. Alex alex@ourwoods.org
Apparently in Page Preview, the "Print only selected sheets" box is ignored. When printing from the regular view it works properly, but in the preview all sheets are viewed and printed, regardless of whether you press the print button or go to File>Print.
The action in 1.9.113 appears to be unchanged. In a multi sheet file, printing from print preview ignores "print selected". Printing from normal view prints only the selected sheet per setting. This isn't a show stopper, but every new user that ends up in this scenario has to figure it out all over again. Alex
This is still a problem in version 2.2.1 (windows). In this version, it is only possible to print a single tab by selecting the cells to print in tabs other than the first tab.
the original report contains lots of unnecessary description Steps how to reproduce with attached sample document and with "AOO 4.2.0-Dev – German UI / German locale [AOO420m1(Build:9800) - Rev. 1597166 2014-05-20 1]" on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)", “historic” 4. User Profile used for all predecessor versions: 0. Open blank new Spreadsheet from AOO Start Center If necessary: Menu 'Tools -> Options - Calc -> Print - Sheets - Print only Seleted Sheets -> [ok] 1. Open sample document > shows sheet 2 2. shift+click Sheet Tab 3 for "Tabelle3" > All sheets except first one selected 3. for a test: menu 'File -> Print' > In print dialog radio button is at "Print only selected sheets", and Print Preview shows only 4 pages of 2 selected sheets 4. [Cancel] > closes print dialog > Still 2 sheets selected of 3 5. for a test from Page Preview: menu 'File -> Print' > In print dialog radio button is at "Print only selected sheets", BUT Print Preview shows 6 pages, it seems that sheet selection is lost :-( or better: it seems that now ALL sheets are selected (you can do a test print) 6. '[Cancel] for Print dialog -> Close Page Preview' > Normal view appears Bug: Only sheet 2 ("Tabelle2") selected, selection of sheet 3 lost. Additional Info: (a) There is some discussion whether Page preview really should do something very similar to Print Preview, but sheet selection may not be lost (may be you want to print from page preview?) As long as selected, PP assumes all sheets selected After PP has been closed, the sheet will be selected from where PP has been started. (b) This one is the root for "Issue 45497 - Page Preview does not respect "print only selected sheets"". As long as selected, PP assumes all sheets selected If PP looses selection, (c) Competitors: (c1) Behavior like AOO: (c2) Keeps Sheet selection for Page preview and after preview: LibreOffice 4.2 SoftMaker FreeOffice: Print sheet selection seems different from sheet tab selection (c3) No "Print only selected sheets" available: Kingsoft (c4) Gnumeric crashed instead of printing, no test possible.
I can't imagine how Calc can be used with this bug
@rainer: Your long description doesn't make it better. This issue is sufficiently described by the headline: *The page preview should not change any selection of sheets.* No more, no less. Page preview <> Print preview. Page preview shows all print ranges. Maybe there should/could be an option "Show selected sheets" which toggles the page preview. It would be an enhancement. Without such option there are Problem 1: There are always at least one sheet selected. Problem 2: Selected sheets may have no print range. I don't understand why the criticised behaviour after ten years should be a major P2.
