Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 26862
occasional text flow wrapping in a slide
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:41:41 UTC
It would be very handy if the word-wrapping properties available in Writer were also available in Impress. Sometimes a presentation slide naturally requires some text to flow around an embedded, irregular graphic. For example : xxxxxxxx xxx gg g xxxx ggg xxxxx g xxxxxxxx (x is the text, g is the graphic - hope thats clear) Currently, this would require multiple text boxes to place each row, and I was really surprised to find that I couldn't set an object to repel text.
Reassigned to Bettina.
There was a demand from the user in Japan. If possible, I want you to improve it. ja bug-tracker. http://oooug.jp/faq/index.php?faq%2F3%2F336
I really want to use 'occasional text flow wrapping in a slide.' If possible, I want you to improve it. Please don't let me think, "OOo is really great except Impress. I should use PowerPoint rather than Impress. Microsoft is greater than the open source community in this regard because I can use 'occasional text flow wrapping in a slide' when using PowerPoint.
To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on my owner to the owner "requirements".
(Riederk, 9/11/10) Build : OOO330m3 (Build:9519) OS: Windows 7 Professional x64 I looked online for ways to work around this problem. I found one: http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=users&msgNo=120036 “Yes, there is a way to do this. Create a frame in Writer with the text and picture. It might help to anchor the picture as a character. This makes it easier to set the spacing around the picture. Also set the wrap for the picture as Page Wrap. Then copy the entire frame onto a slide. Finally, you will have to double click the frame on the slide to make adjustments to what is shown within the frame. When you are finished, click on the slide outside the frame to bring you back to the main Impress window. You might need to play around with this for a little while, but it can be done.” This can be done using the following steps: 1. Create a new document using OO Writer 2. Click the “Insert” menu tab 3. Choose “Frame” from the drop down menu 4. Insert a picture in the frame (somewhere besides the top-left) 5. Right-click the image. Choose “Wrap” → “Page Wrap” 6. Add some text to ensure that it does in fact wrap around the image. 7. Select the Frame box and copy it. 8. Paste it onto a blank slide 9. Double-click the frame to adjust view The adjusting in this method is very frustrating and glitchy and caused me to eventually give up, just as most users probably would. I believe that this an important feature to many users such as riffraff. You guys have the feature working in Writer and working well. If it could be implemented somehow in Impress it would help users more efficiently and effectively make presentations and slide shows. It is a crucial feature to making professional looking slides, which is the image that Open Office wishes to have.
I would value this enhancement. I have to work around images and graphs constantly in my slides because I reserve the upper right corner for a video clip that I will later overlay using Adobe's Premiere (see the creative-commons licensed free courses in software testing at www.testingeducation.org/BBST for examples of the videos and of hundreds of slides that would have been more easily managed with this feature.) However, I don't think it is available in PowerPoint either.
