Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 24593
Auto updating Table of Content (TOC) (only when not modified manually)
Last modified: 2015-05-07 09:54:05 UTC
Could we have the TOC auto updating itself when headlines are inserted or changed? F9 (Update All Fields) or Update All Fields Before Printing doesn't work eigther with TOCs. At least if you have several TOCs in your document it is quite hard to scan through the doc and update them manually.
Reassigned to ES
ES->BH: please se with OS if this is possible
It's the dead for big dokuments. This feature must be switchable. Or better a funktion that update alle TOCs by 1 click.
Issue 40231 seems to be a duplicate of this issue.

tweimar: you can use Tools|Update -> all to update everything (or all indexes) at once. setting keywors, exending summary, reassigning
I think this issue is solved with the last comment about option Tools/Update/Update All. Issue 40231 --marked as dup of this one-- was talking about automating this task, which is discussed in more detail in issue 25710 and issue 8089 (marked as dup of 25710).
The issue isn't solved because it doesn't happen automatically. One can forget to update (via Tools > Update) the TOC before printing or exporting to PDFs.
It would be nice to have auto-updating as a table-wise option : - A beginner may expect the table to be updated automatically. - It is practical and not such a pain on small files. OFF can be the default, so as to respect current behaviour.
I agree that this must happen automatically. The writer shall be able to focus on content, not on bugs. It is very annoying that this bug report now is 11 years old, but nothing has happened. I can't see any reason why indices shouldn't be updated automatically, since there is no benefit of outdated indices. Update should occur at least on printing and PDF export. Final documents must not have outdated indices.
