Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 23582
Spacing Controls in Forms
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:38:51 UTC
Hi, I would like to make a suggestion on adding the ability to select the vertical and/or horizontal spacing between controls when designing a form. A feature of MS Access I use often is the Horizontal and Vertical spacing. The features I find tedious in Access are the Increase and Decrease spacing. I usually space equally and then increase or decrease. What I am really generally trying to do is to bring the vertical spacing down to what I feel is visually acceptable. The missing option I find in MS Access is a Spacing - None (for no spacing). Then I could simply: Select controls using lasso Select Spacing None Select Increase one or two times to get the desired space between controls. The reason this does not work well in MS Access is I have to space Equal first and then repeatedly decrease the space. When the spacing is large this can take many repeats of the decrease option. A single Space - None, with one or two Increase space, would give me a faster result. (I hope that clarifies where I feel MS Access is a little weak and OpenOffice.org could improve upon.) The Spacing - None option is also important in the following situation. I often have a group of fields that are related. They usually are added to a form one at a time and have spacing between them. Perform left align and then follow with spacing none, would allow me to more quickly layout this situation. So adding the following options to OOo would help with a better user experience for Controls and possibly shapes in general. Horizontal spacing - Make equal - Increase - Decrease - None Vertical spacing - Make equal - Increase - Decrease - None Hope this helps clarify the suggestion. Kelvin
Hi Bettina, one more for the enhancements of forms & controls. Bye Marc
Hello Kelvin, as this feature concerns all objects (shaes, graphics,...) and not only form controls, it affects all applications. I changed the component accordingly to 'framework'. Such a new feature has to be integrated into the Drawing layer. Changings in this area are not planned for OO.o 2.0. Thus this issue is considered for OO.o later.
To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on my owner to the owner "requirements".
