Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 22128
"Add Table" icon is hardly recognized by many users
Last modified: 2008-05-28 23:21:10 UTC
Add table Icon (in Writer) Failed to communicate to many new user, because it is little bit hide near the corner,so it is not easily found by new user. It is already in the Star Office 5.2 review but nobody care about it, loak at this review for more data: http://www.sims.berkeley.edu/courses/is271/f01/projects/WordStar/finalReport.html#recs and also the Baloon is only showing "Insert" only, instead of "Insert Table" Solutions is easy, (so I hope can be fixed in 1.1.1): 1. Move the Insert Table icon lower (about one icon size) so it is more visible to user. 2. Change the baloon text from "Insert" to "Insert Table" Note; I will attach the screenshot

SBA->Utomo: A design issue like this can never be a defect. Issue type changed to "Enhancement". Component changed to "Word Processor". Title adjusted for better understanding. The tip help only shows "insert" because this button can be used to insert different objects, keeping the icon of the last inserted object (to be seen when you do a "long click"). SBA->CJ: Since you are currently working on tool bar behavior, please have this one and check if it fits in the OOo 2.0 roadmap (therefore I didn't set a target yet). If not, please dispatch. Please note that I already forwarded the usability comparision link to FL.
Utomo > SBA: I say it defect, because it failed to communicate with user, look at the review. many people failed to find it. but it ok if you say it is enhancement. about the tool tip. it is better if we can get tool tips Insert (What) instead of of only insert. at that situation it will show Insert (Table) if we change the tooltip will change too, example insert (Bookmark). But I dont know how difficult it is to make this. but it will help user
cj->sts: Please take over. Thx.
closed. as already change the UI
