Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 17894
Irritating page number "0" in paragraph style modifying dialog
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:35:02 UTC
Open Stylist > paragraph styles > rightclick default (or other) > modify > text flow > break: enable > check "with page style" Page number shows "0" by default. When choosing a number different from "0", the next paragraph will start a new page with the chosen page number. When leaving "0" untouched, the new page will continue the original page numbering but nor start with "0". I think that´s irritating. Instead of "0", add "no renumbering" or similar to the page number list. Guido
Most choices on computers have default numbers, such as "99" to indicate no limit or, as in this case, "0" (there is no such thing as a "page 0") to indicate no selection. It might be helpful if there were instructions on the dialog that says "Selecting '0' will not change the numbering sequence."
It is explained exactly that way, Robert, in the help for this dialog. This is the expected behavior. I'm kind of surprised neither Guido nor you checked the help before filing this RFE.
Hi, Matt. I understand and have used it that way for years (been with SO 5.2 and OOo 643c and since). It simply occurred to me that if the dialog box had a simple explanation such as "'0' means no change in pagination" or something similar as part of the box, this question simply wouldn't occur.
There wouldn´t be a help entry on this and, in fact, no need for consulting help if the dialog would be more clear about this. Why isn´t it possible to change "0" to "no change"? (No extra text as proposed by RBE.)
SBA: "0" is a digit as well as "real" page numbers are. I agree that "0" is NOT intuitive if "No change" is the message. Issue confirmed. Reassigned to Bettina.
