Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 17714
"grab keycombo"-field for easier way to assign keyboard shortcuts
Last modified: 2003-11-12 15:46:45 UTC
Currently, OO will list down all the possible keyboard combinations and all the possible actions. The user can then match the keyboard combination to the action. This is a bit tedious. I suggest that there ia a textbox that allows the user to press some keyboard combination. This combination will then displayed on the textbox and OO will check whether it is assigned to some other actions. Basically, this is how the Microsoft Word keyboard shortcut customisation works.

This is an excellent suggestion in my mind, mainly because OO doesn't display all possible keyboard combinations at the moment. I'd love to assign <ctrl>+'=' for subscript, <ctrl>+'<' for decrease font size as per MSWord etc. but I'm restricted at the moment. If you change the way keyboard customisation works then it would be great if you could allow all possible combinations to be customised. IMHO it is important to allow users to define previously learnt shortcut combos if you're going to attract new users.
