Description hunkah 2003-07-29 09:40:14 UTC
Hello, this is my first post here. I hope I haven't done anything to get
someone mad at me. I hate making mistakes on open-source sites. Everyone gets
so mad!
Anyway, I really love this program. I am holding off switching from
WordPerfect for only three reasons. This is one of them.
You are missing a Pre-set in the zoom menu, it is when the corners of
the "page" touch corner to corner with the "work area" It will measure 93% on
a 600x800 viewing area. WordPerfect was the first ones to have this about 8
years ago. As soon as Microsoft seen this, they added it too. It makes the
WYSIWYG seem more realistic. I have a link to show you what I mean. I want
this because it makes word processing look a lot better.
I would LOVE for you to add this as a pre-set to the ZOOM... menu. I have to
keep switching it every time I open a new document.

Thanks for reading this. I am sure it won't be that hard to add.

Me, too. "Optimal" does not do it and I, too, have spent quite a bit
of time getting the "page" to fill the screen properly. It didn't
occur to me that it was a problem, but this post reminded me that it
was not a problem in MS Word.

OK, I think it is usefull suggestion for adding more zoom option
so user will feel it is easier to view it, and mostly user will need
this custom zoom, because they didnt change monitor resolution so much

Hello hunkah, welcome to OpenOffice.org! Thank you for reporting this
issue. A changed zoom should keep alive for each new document. There
had been known problems with unwanted resets, but that has been fixed,
I checked it in the newest version. That should work. But now to your
suggestion. A further zoom setting will not prevent a user from
switching, it is possible that the resolution has to be adjusted to a
selected zoom setting, because different resolutions are used.

I don't know if you understood what I am requesting.

I will try to re-phrase what I mean:
To have another "full page view" pre-set that shows the entire sheet
within the allowable viewing area, regardless of screen resolution.
Current Problem:
If you need to modify a percentage, then everytime you open a new
document, you then need to reajust the sheet on the screen so that
the new document is centered. What I am requesting is for Writer to:
1. Have a full Page view pre-set (see picture)
2. Allow it to be centered
3. Remove the [<]=========[ ]========[>] scroll bar so that it
becomes unmovable. (this is the most important because it never
quite sits center in the viewing area.)
OR
If you can somehow modify the current "Page Width" pre-set so that it
is like the diagram on the link that would be cool too. Only some
others might like the way that pre-set looks now, and I don't want to
step on any toes. That is why I was requesting a new pre-set.

Does that make more sense, or did I make it worse?

Hello Christian, wished is a full page view pre-set showing the document without
the grey area (please have a look at the attachment). As you are currently
working on centering the page, I set this issue on your owner for decision
about. Thank you.

Yes! Exactly! Thank-you for saying what I couldn't!
