Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 14534
saving a table to Word97 format looks bad viewed in Word 2000
Last modified: 2003-09-14 03:40:12 UTC
I'm using 1.1 beta on Linux. I wrote a fairly simple document in the word processor that included a full width, 2 column table. It views and saves in .sxw just fine. I also saved it to Word97 format and Word95 format. I've got two MS methods of viewing Word documents created in OOo, the free MS Word viewer and Word 2000 on running on 2000Pro. Both .doc files view correctly on the free MS viewer. But only the Word95 document views correctly on Word 2000. When viewing the Word97 document (created in OOo)on Word 2000, the vertical height of each table cell is at least twice the size I specified making the document about twice as long as it should be.
Some more testing reveals that if I change the Table Format "spacing to contents" from the default .04" to 0" and if my tables are created with no header, THEN I can save my document as a Word97 doc and have it view correctly in MS Word 2000. The table sizing (cell height) is still a little different from .doc to .sxw but all in all not a bad conversion. I just probably shouldn't have to jump through the above hoops to get it looking acceptable.

Please upgrade to 1.1rc3 and attach a sample document if this does not resolve your issue. Thanks, Tam
This is still a problem with 1.1RC3. It is duplicated in issue 15342 which has an attached sample document.
