Description brk 2003-04-29 16:46:47 UTC
Hi Developers,

I have downloaded and installed OO 1.0.3 to some Win98 and XP machines.

There is a linux server with samba server running and OO 1.0.3 can access
network shares directly ( \\server\share\ ) easily from XP machines; opens
files , saves, no problem.

However, from Win98 machines, you can see the files in folders, when you try to
open them, Oo brings up dialog box, asking which type of file it is. In fact,
Oo can not access and read files; only when trying to access directly!!!
If the share is mapped to a drive letter, then Oo 1.0.3 can open, save the
files without problem.

Please help on this matter an urgent fix is needed. Oo 1.0.2 do not have this
problem, it can access shares directly or mapped from any Windows OS.

Best Regards,

Burak Ural

Hi Burak,

I can confirm this bug. It doesn't occur in the latest snapshop m11 of
OOo and so will be fixed with OOo 1.1 Beta and later.
If this isn't enough for you I may find and fix the cause but this
would mean you either have to wait for OOo 1.0.4 to appear (which
would be surely after the OOo1.1 release) or build the faulty module
yourself with the patch.

Kind Regards,
Tino

Ok, if there will be an OOo 1.0.4 I will fix it for that version.

This bug is being discovered by more and more people as they download
the localized versions of 1.0.3.1. I have seen two more reports on
this bug from a French and German user.

The problem is that 1.0.3 is supposed to be stable, and so this really
should be fixed in my opinion as soon as possible, just as the print
issue was fixed, since it makes it impossible for anyone who's just
upgraded to latest stable to access the files they created on a
Windows share with preceding versions of the software. Please bear in
mind that for the moment, the binaries for beta 1.1 are only available
in English as far as I know.

Just my two cents.

Hi Alex,

you are right it should be fixed as soon as possible, but is there
another version before OOo 1.0.4, and will this version be out before
OOo 1.1 is final and localized?

Kind Regards,
Tino

I installed OOo 1.0.3.1 using a network installation (setup.exe -net)
on a network share (Windows 2000). This worked fine. I can install OOo
from there on a workstation using either a drive letter the share is
mapped to or using the share directly. In both modes OOo seems to run
fine, except that the help browser does not work when installing
directly from the share (not mapped to a drive letter). When I open
the help, I get the topics on the left, but clicking on a topic brings
up a dialog asking me for some conversion values and then instead of
opening a help window, I get a OOo Writer component displayed in
editing mode on the right side. I uninstalled the workstation
installation and installed again using a mapped share and then help
worked fine.
It would be nice if it was not necessary to map the network shares to
a drive to get OOo working correctly.
I don't know if that bug is also addressed by the changes to OOo 1.0.4
and/or 1.1beta.

Yet another user on the French list has this problem with the 1.0.3
localized version. I hope the beta2 is being localized fast ;-)

With OOo v1.0.3.1 (IT localization) on Win95 OSR2 I have the same
problem with sxw and stw files, but I can open .doc files on shared
folders: no problem with that format.
I also tried to replace some libraries and discovered that using
sal3.dll from v1.0.2 IT solved the issue (I know, it's really not
orthodox and can cause even more problems, but I couldn't try anything
else!). Hope it's useful.

This may be the same problem?

I just installed the latest OO 1.10 on my two primary PCs - both PIII,
one desktop and one laptop, both running Win2K.

These two machines are networked with a third Win98SE machine via a
Linksys router. One of them is by wireless, the other by ethernet cable.

OO on the Win2K machines is unable to open files on the Win98 machine.
I can navigate and select the file (either OO or MS docs) from the
file open dialog , but they do not open. The dialog closes, and
nothing happens.

Trying to save to the Win98 machine causes an error:

Error saving document xxxx.xxx
Wrong parameter
The operation was started under an invalid parameter.

Installation on the two Win2k machines was via -net install as
Administrator, then workstation install as directed. Other than this
they work fine an I like the programs very much.

I'd love to solve this one.

Hi!

It tested the behavior with the latest OOo1.1.1b version and it works correctly.
I doubt that there will be an OOo 1.0.4 now that OOo1.1 is out and work
continous on OOo1.1.1
So I think we can close this issue.

Kind Regards,
Tino
