Description sebb 2021-02-08 14:54:18 UTC
The source download page currently links directly to the ASF download host for the source artifacts (zip and gz).

Such links must use the ASF mirror system, as per:

https://infra.apache.org/release-distribution#download-links
Comment 1 Matthias Seidel 2021-02-08 16:27:47 UTC
Can you show me one ASF mirror that offers OpenOffice artifacts?

I am unable to find it:

Comment 2 sebb 2021-02-08 17:31:30 UTC
You need to take this up with Infra, since they make the rules
Comment 3 Matthias Seidel 2021-02-08 17:35:24 UTC
Infra couldn't handle our download volumes "back then" so they removed OpenOffice from all mirrors.
Maybe they can now? ;-)
Comment 4 sebb 2021-02-08 17:39:58 UTC
The download page I am referring to only links to the source archives.

These are not large compared with some other products.

Only the source archives need to be served from the mirrors.
Comment 5 Dave Fisher 2021-03-02 18:37:24 UTC
Infra granted OpenOffice an exception to this rule years ago.
Comment 6 Dave Fisher 2021-03-02 18:40:56 UTC
Infra's mirroring system completely excludes the 'openoffice' directory.
Comment 7 Dave Fisher 2021-03-02 19:11:16 UTC
I've asked Infra to evaluate the pros and cons of openoffice using the Apache Mirror system.

After the move to CDN and the changes on the website, can this issue be closed now?
Comment 9 Matthias Seidel 2022-07-24 18:56:01 UTC
We have moved to CDN and the source page now links accordingly.
Comment 10 Carl Marcum 2022-07-28 16:41:49 UTC
Maybe we could also update the Alternative Download Link #2 on the Sourceforge page https://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html
to use something like:
https://www.apache.org/dyn/closer.lua/openoffice/4.1.13/binaries
instead of
https://downloads.apache.org/openoffice/4.1.13/binaries/
so it uses the cdn.
Comment 11 Matthias Seidel 2022-07-28 17:01:45 UTC
Yes, we should discuss that on dev@.
