Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 128286
new locale for Ligurian (lij / lij-IT)
Last modified: 2022-01-14 23:09:49 UTC
Hi, I would like to request the addition of Ligurian to the supported languages please: https://iso639-3.sil.org/code/lij. We have a Hunspell dictionary we are happy to open source and contribute, too. Thanks!
Dictionnaries are provided under extensions (OXT file). You can submit this here: https://extensions.openoffice.org You should check this page: https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Adding_a_new_language_or_locale Regards
Thanks for the link. However, I believe the locale still needs to be enabled manually as Ligurian does not appear to be known to the code or the build system.
Provide the locale data as lined out above. Make a pull request in Github repo: https://github.com/apache/openoffice/ As long as we don't have this file, it doesn't make sense to set as UNCONFIRMED.
Reopening since we now have the locale file in a PR (thanks!): https://github.com/apache/openoffice/pull/30 (assuming user Baciccin on github is the same person who reported here) To the benefit of those who are unfamiliar with it, the best description I wrote of our localization process is here: https://archive.fosdem.org/2018/schedule/event/ode_localization/ (PDF slides; ignore the video). It is still current, just the good news is that Pootle works properly now. Summary of components and actions: - Adding the locale: this can be done based on your PR, and this is the scope of this issue. See slides to understand what this means in practice. - Adding a spell-checker: this is done through an extension, subscribe to the L10N list https://openoffice.apache.org/mailing-lists.html for advice. It does require that the locale is added, so your dictionary won't work with the current version of OpenOffice unless you go for hacks that I discourage (like pretending that Ligurian is Esperanto) - Translating the entire UI: this is much bigger, and the L10N list is, again, the place for discussing it. This issue remains open for conversation and questions that may arise while adding the locale from the PR.

Hi, I may have misunderstood the process as I was actually waiting to hear back about the aforementioned PR from you. I thought the scope of this issue was limited to discussions of the PR – is there anything that needs changing, or can it be landed? My impression was that it addresses the requirements for Ligurian to be added as a document language, as described in the linked slides.
