Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 128126
saving as a .doc file with starting page numbers other than 1 if greater than 255 doesn't keep the format
Last modified: 2019-06-13 10:18:18 UTC
When using Writer 4.1.6 on Windows 8.1 and saving as the .doc file format (Microsoft Word XP version extension) and I am numbering the first page other than 1 in the footer and that number is greater than 255, when I re-open the file it has reset itself to 1. I have played around with this and if you restart at 256, it resets to 1 (and the dialog box on the format paragraph lists your starting page number as 0). If you restart at 257, it resets to 1 (and the dialog box on the format paragraph lists your starting page number as 1), but if you restart at 258, it resets to 2 (and the dialog box on the format paragraph lists your starting page number as 2). Thereafter, any number greater than 257 that you restart numbering with, it resets to 0 + n where n is your start number - 254 in the format paragraph dialog box upon reopening upon a save. I saw someone's post that sounded similar about an issue around page # 255 but I couldn't be sure by the description if this was the same issue. Hopefully it's an easy fix! Thanks! Michael
Incidentally, if I make these formatting changes and instead open them in LibreOffice Writer 6.2.2.2 the changes stay. Go figure? Michael
Save our time, please provide an ODT document to reproduce.
Gotcha. I've added the file, error-sample.doc to the initial bug-fix post. Thanks! Michael
Created attachment 86695 [details] error sample showing reproducable results
Please re-read more attentively: provide the document in ODT not DOC
Created attachment 86697 [details] error sample showing reproducable results in .ODT format
Incidentally, that makes NO sense as this is an issue in .doc file conversion. You're just going to convert it to .doc to experience the error in any case! Michael
