Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 128102
I suggest a shortening table for formatting table content column width dependent
Last modified: 2019-10-03 07:59:01 UTC
This is a feature request. Each department (business, maths, cooking, physics, bibliography, or any more general reference keeping) has a number of recurrent words with quite usual shortenings. In writer, we already have this bibliography management, keeping shortenings for any referenced piece of literature. A simple and more general table of shortenings may offer a dependent formatting of table contents. If the content of a table cell is too large to be shown, it gets cut in the middle of a letter. In many cases it would be better and sufficient to cut one letter behind syllable border and add a dot, but a much better solution would be a list of well known shortenings. Instead of cutting "absolute" to [absc] we would read [abs.] e.g.. And still the real content of the field would be the whole word. Presentation of data would gain a major valorisation with much less efford this way.
Personally, I don't see any interest for this feature in Calc app. Maybe a macro could be developed to formatting cell content with these words replacement.
I agree. this is a document feature, not a calc feature. I think do it yourself using macro features. i vote for wont fix
I wouldn't expect this in odt tables although it would be nice if it would work there as well. My feature request was for ods though. If there'd be a Macro, could that replace the view of a cell content without replacing the content itself? To show a view different to the real content is a behavior which is already implemented. This should be enhanced. Could that be done by macro?
