Error popup when opening OpenOffice 4.1.0

This seems to relate to 117364, but that has been resolved, and is for a different version.
I am running XP Pro SP3.
I have just downloaded and installed OO 4.1.0, via openoffice.org, installing
over the previous version 4.0.1.
When I try to start OpenOffice, I get the attached error message. I have performed a repair install after getting the error, but to no avail.

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance.

> Any ideas ?

The message says that your installation is corrupted (a library named drawinglayer.dll is missing in the <installation path>\program folder).

Please verify the integrity of file you downloaded: get the hash file from https://www.openoffice.org/download/other.html and verify your download with the instructions from here https://www.openoffice.org/download/checksums.html
(you don't need to install extra tools, as you can verify the download on the online sites, see "Internet - Verify with SHA256 and MD5".

If the hash from your download differs from the original hash, then the downloaded file is corrupted, you have to download it again, and verify its integrity before trying to install it.

Hello

I downloaded a new copy of 4.1.0, and checked both MD5 and SHA256 checksums, both of which matched. I am a bit new to the idea of checksums, so did both - better safe than sorry.
I then installed from this new download, over the existing 4.0.1 install using Modify, and got the same popup error as before.

Do I need to completely uninstall the original, and then apply the new ?
If so, will I lose any settings ?

If not uninstall, then what ?

Thanks so far.

4.1.0 should be seen by the system as an update to 4.0.1, did the installer offer an option to "Modify" 4.0.1? As far as I know, it should offer an option to install 4.1.0 without replacing 4.0.1, but not to "modify" 4.0.1

This might solve the problem, remove 4.0.1 completely, then install 4.1.0.

> If so, will I lose any settings ?

The user settings are stored in a different place and are not removed, something like:
C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice\4\user

When I first installed 4.1.0 over 4.0.1, I was allowed a complete install; consecutive installs gave me the modify/repair option, so I had tried both to no avail.
Now, I followed the uninstall old, install new option suggested, which finally worked.
Hope that this does not happen again with the next version.

Thanks for the help.
