Sample impress presentation

When selecting a text box after another text box is selected, the text of the previously selected text box disappears in slide preview.

Steps to reproduce:

(1) Load sample presentation (attached to the ticket)

(2) Select a text box, e.g. the main outline

(3) Select another text box, e.g. the slide title

When selecting the slide title, the text of the main outline disappears in slide preview (see red boxes in screenshot).

The problem appears on Mac OS X 10.9.2 with OpenOffice 4.1 revision 1572744 from trunk.

Just selecting did not make the text disappear; I guess you meant to klick in it to get it to text edit mode.
When going to text edit mode the text is indeed taken away from the object since it gets handled for the time of the text edit by the outliner. This can not only be seen in the preview, but also in all other views (you may use menu command window - new window to open more edit windows of the same document).
This is from my POV intended behaviour - the view with the active text edit 'owns' the text and the result of the ongoing text edit is unknown - thus, show no data in other views for this time.
Not a bug from my POV.

You're right, I meant klicking in. If this is the desired behavior the text of the text box edited first should disappear too. This is not the case.

Hi Thorsten,

thanks for the comment, but that would prevent the user from just changing the actual text. It is intended that the text which is already there is available for editing. Maybe I got you wrong, though...
Comment 5 Armin Le Grand 2014-02-27 22:23:42 UTC
... and to be precise: The text *is* indeed taken away from the text box which is in edit mode; the text you see belongs to the instance of the activated text editor which is placed right where the text in the object would be. If not doing this, text editing would be very annoying - you would see the unchanged text of the object behind the edited text all the time of editing.

Armin, maybe you're right: I doublechecked on Windows with AOO 4.0.1, which shows the same behaviour. As it is no issue of AOO 4.1 I'll lower the ticket's importance.

From my point of view the behaviour is not consistent. The order shouldn't be important, because there is always only one text box in edit mode.

Hi Thorsten,

could you please describe what behavior you would expect?
Comment 8 Thorsten Wagner 2014-02-28 00:39:30 UTC
I would expect that the preview is either changing while editing or that the preview remains static with the content prior to editing at least.

Hi Thorsten,

Sounds good, I agree. This would be a good enhancement; I guess updating after edit mode would be fine (doing it 'life' would be somewhat expensive, but also nice). Changing to enhancement request and setting to confirmed.

Changing hardware to ALL because this is a bug (yes, I regard it as a bug) that is not platform specific.

Hm, reading original report I see starting edit of slide title makes invisible main outline. But that is not what I observe, not what screenshot shows.

Not a new issue, already with AOO 3.4.0, may be more early.

For me it is difficult to understand that Text boxes do not show that behavior in Draw. But after copy / paste to Impress, they show the reported behavior.
