Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 121563
OOWriter should update the Table of Contents on save
Last modified: 2013-01-31 10:42:49 UTC
I would like my document's Table of Contents automatically updated on document save. This should not be hard to implement since whatever code Update Index/Table calls could be added to the save preparation logic. If there are those who would object to this behavior, a user preference could be added to control it. When going through multiple revisions are rewrites of documents as I often do, it is a pain to have to keep remembering to manually update the TOC before saving.
Table of Contents are not automatically updated when saving a document.I e; if you have made a change somewhere in the document, eg in a header, this doesn't turn up in the TOC. As the user here says, he has to remember to manually update the TOC before saving. And that is correct; you have to manually go through a couple of steps to update your TOC. I believe that he wants some kind of user preference to be added somewhere. This should be something for the development people to look into.
I do not like the idea of an automatic update on saving. If you have special formats in your heading like sub- or superscript, this settings are not mirrored in the TOC. Therefore people set such formatting manually in the TOC. If the TOC is automatically updated on saving, those formatting is lost. If you personally need an update on saving, you can write a macro for updating and bind it to the events "Save Document" and "Save Document as".
So, I put it as resolved and fixed.
