Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 114056
"Before text" paragraph spacing is applied to both text, and graphics, if the graphic is left-aligned
Last modified: 2010-08-23 14:06:52 UTC
I added a graphic with "optimal wrap", left-aligned on a paragraph with space "Before text". The "Before text" space is applied between the graphic and text, when it's really intended as an space between the border of the page and the beginning of text, and looks horrible. This is added on top of whatever right spacing the graphic already has. I was expecting that aligning the graphic left to the "paragraph's text area", then typing text would leave the "before text" space before the graphic, then the graphic's right space, then the text, without any "before text" space added again.
I see this spacing only, if the picture is wider than the indent. I expect in this case, that the text begins immediately at the pictures right edge.
This behavior has been implemented for compatibility purpose to other/competing word Processors.
Closed.
Guys, the logical behaviour when the graphic is anchored to the "paragraph's text area" would be to have the "before text space", then the graphic's left space, followed by the graphic, the graphic's right space, and immediatly the text. There's no way to accomplish that with the current behaviour, and i think that Openoffice exists not only to have a free carbon copy of other word processors, but to get rid of their incoherences. I think that this should be fixed, and if compatibility with other word processors is an issue, get that taken care of in format conversion, or just add more alignment options, or a compatibility checkbox, or something like that.
No, this won't be "fixed". If you'd desire a different behavior, please file a new issue of type "Enhancement" where you state to have an additional behavior as you expect. Please don't mutate this issue, because it will get too long and inconvenient to handle. Thanks for your patience.
