Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 113556
"Find and Replace" function consistently hangs Writer
Last modified: 2010-07-31 07:49:05 UTC
I am resubmitting this bug, originally described in issue #111370, which has been closed. I can once again reproduce this reliably and consistently. While using the "Find & Replace" function, hitting "Find" while on the last occurrence of the search text found in the file when searching forward or while on the first occurrence of the search text when searching backwards hangs OOo so it is completely unresponsive. Steps to reproduce: 1. I open an .odt file created with Writer on Mac OS X. 2. I do a "find & replace" for a text string (I can reproduce with any string). 3. I search for all occurrences, hitting "Find" in the dialog after each find. 4. At the last occurrence, I hit "Find" once more. 5. I hear the "not found" sound indicating that there are no more occurrences. 6. I am NOT prompted with "Do you want to search from the beginning...". 7. The application hangs... dead as can be. 8. I cannot exit OOo by selecting "OpenOffice.org" -> "Quit OpenOffice.org" 9. I have to open a shell and issue a "kill <pid>". Note that the hang occurs consistently on the last occurrence of the text string when searching forward or on the first occurrence of the text string when searching backwards. I can reproduce this behavior 100% consistently every time on the attached .odt file. Note: after the hang, I can still go to the main menu bar and open another document. The second document window is functional. But the first is still hung and completely unresponsive.

No need to file new issues for existing ones. Just reopen issue 111370 and answer please following questions (in issues 111370)... It looks like OOo doesn't hang but the "start from beginning" dialog is not visible. - If you you hit Enter or Escape does it cure the problem? - do you have 2 monitors? - can you try to grab the title bar of the main window/Find dialog and move them to see if the warning does not appear beneath them? - Describe exactly which OSX version you have, if you have special Desktop features active etc... This is still not reproducible for us here. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 11370 ***
