Thanks for oyur offer! Please have a look to the META issue 21438 Rainer
Hi Jamey, It seems that there is not so much activity concerning Tablet PC. So I assign this issue as TASK to you. Rainer
Being the proud owner of a new HP TC1100, this is something I'd like to see as well. I'd hate to have to get MSO just so I can have integrated tablet input support :( Under XP it seems like this shouldn't be too difficult? - basically sensitize input fields so they bring up the input panel. Input from the panel should just look like ordinary text input. Maybe be sensitive to vertical orientation, as well. I don't know, though - I haven't gotten into the tablet SDK...
Let's use this issue to aggregate interest in Tablet PC support, in general. There a couple of other tablet related issues, but if we spread out the votes it will only fragment the effort. Wish I had the coding skill to add to this issue, but since I do have a vote, I can at least contribute that much. Thanks for all the hard work and considering this issue.
What about a "satellite" application (like OOMath) similar to Windows Journal integrated in OpenOffice environment? Something that allows users to take notes and use them in OpenOffice main applications (handwriting recognition may be the further step)...
Please make it so OpenOffice responds to TabletPC input anywhere text can be entered not just in Writer, but any part of OpenOffice. Writer, Impress, Search boxes, Calc, Draw, Math, and Base, but Writer would be the priority. I may be able to submit code changes for this with some assistance.
Windows VistA will popularize the TabletPC because manufacturers will not have to pay more for the OS than they already do. OLPC - One Laptop Per Child Linux may benefit from this functionality as well.
The GeckoTip Firefox plugin is a good example of the functionality required to TabletPC enable OpenOffice because all OpenOffice really needs to do is recognize that the user wishes to input using the pen instead of the keyboard. http://geckotip.mozdev.org/ Nokia is launching a TabletPC like Linux based system soon and the One Laptop Per Child project could use this type of functionality as well.
I would like to be able to write on documents using a pen in a tablet environment. This lets me add annotations, signatures, etc. This is the first time I have encountered a feature in Word that I could not find in OO! (I have been using the feature in Word on a tablet since 2005. I just bought a new tablet and was a bit surprised that the feature wasn't in OO.) Hopefully I missed something in my searches... -Joe
