Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 10343
install script cannot be run from text console
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:40:15 UTC
The PDF installation manual (I am referring to the german language version here) claims that a non-GUI installation can be performed using the 'install' script. I found this not to be true. 'install' runs 'setup', which does not run from a text console, it complains about no X server being present and aborts.
Hi, The script does in fact provide a way to install without the "Graphical User Interface" but still does require an X11 server beign present. The script is meant to allow non-interactive installation for sys admins and users who do not need or want to install things via full interaction via menus, buttons, etc If you want to install a network version and do not have graphical display hardware on the machine, simply launch Xvfb (see man Xvfb) first. A complete rpm based installation method is being worked on but until that becomes available, running Xvfb and using the install script will work fine. Kevin
We are in the state of discussion to provide an installation without X server.
