Description mpt 2002-12-16 20:51:24 UTC
Steps to reproduce:
1. If you are logged in to IssueZilla, log out so that you can see the problem.
2. Start filing an issue, so you get to (for example)

What you see:
* `You must login [sic] to the site to use the requested feature. Visit the
login page to login [sic] or to register for an account.'

What's wrong with this:
* There isn't a form for loggingin (... er, logging in) on the error page
    itself.
* There isn't even a link to the login page from the text `login page'.
* In fact, there isn't a link to the login page ANYWHERE ON THAT PAGE.
* The only link to the login page anywhere on the openoffice.org site, that I
can find, is buried in tiny-sized text more than a screenful down from the
top of the page on <http://www.openoffice.org/project_issues.html>.

What you should see:
* A login form on exactly the same page as the error, as has been present in
Bugzilla for a year or two.
* Failing that, a link to the login page from the error page.

Thanks for raising the issue.

There should be a link to Login on the left-hand navigation (Think
its called Join / Login) thats available when the 'You need to
login' page appears.

Therefore the only thing remaining is the fact that there probably
should be fields to let you login from the page rather than having
to go to another page.

As this isn't a defect as such, I'm changing this to an Enhancement
issue.

I think the priority should be higher. It is really bad usability.

You receive a mail bacaue an issues has change.
You click on the like provided to add a comment.
You write the comment (sometimes just a few words, sometime a lot
more)
You click 'Commit'
The page rises up and your comment is lost!
You have to login!
You have to find the issue again!
You have to write the comment again!

This is really annoying. I don't know any other bugzilla which such a
bad usability.

Instead it is better to ask for login and password and continue
submitting the changes so that they didn't get lost. Usability would
be a lot better because you can simply click on the issue link, write
your comment and enter you login right after writing the comment if
necessary to fullfill the 'commit'.

I agree that the login should not interrupt the process of committing
a comment. That is the behavior I see in almost all programs where I
am active in debugging.

Go to site (clicking from an email, forum or newsgroup).
There are one of two behaviors:

Option 1) The web site notes that you are not logged in and asks you
to log in, first. After logging in, you are then directed to the site
you selected.

Option 2) The web site puts you on a page where you can add comments.
You add them and select that program's version of "Commit" and you
are asked to login. After logging in, the program continues to
process the input data.

Either way would be better than losing track of the page, which is the
current default.

I think this has been fixed on the OOo website in the meantime. please review.
Comment 5 gwagenknecht 2004-02-25 13:24:17 UTC
not really

Right now I click on a bug link from within a bug email. If I'm not logged in I
cann't add comments. Thus, I log in using the login box on the upper right.
When the login is successfull I'm redirected to "my start page" and not to the
bug page I came from (I logged in at).

Hi, I usually use the work-around to login, go back and reload the issue page.

Anyway, there should be a way to login and continue to work on an issue with the
new permissions.

I believe that http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=34822 is a duplicate of this issue.
Basically, both issues want for one to log in and then have the issue page refreshed with the new
permissions.
Shall we close the more recent issue?

Hi,

The engineers are working to find a fix for this issue, where a user log in and
then have the issue page (or the page from where he logged in) refreshed with
the new permissions, instead of taking him to 'My Start Page'. The fix is
considered to be incuded in the future release of CEE. We will keep you updated
on the status.

support, any chance this can be fixed for 3.5.1?
Comment 13 Unknown 2006-12-27 10:07:10 UTC
The option 1 has been implemented via the 3.5.1 .

Option 1) The web site notes that you are not logged in and asks you
to log in, first. After logging in, you are then directed to the site
you selected.

Closing this issue as fixed .Please verify .
