Description niederbayern 2007-02-19 14:57:22 UTC
When performing AutoFill using the mouse, the only possibility to determine the
behaviour of the programme ist to hold down the CTRL-key. However, this is not a
wide choice.

Users would like to be able to decide whether cell formats should be copied by
AutoFill or not. Users would like to be able to decide what sort of calculation
has to be performed when filling the values (linear, growth, date, ...)

Suggestion: Allow AutoFill by using the right mouse key for dragging. Show some
popup dialog or context menu with all these options, when the right mouse key
has been used for dragging.

IMHO it's not necessary as we have Edit-Fill...

but let's requirements decide.

Please note that "Edit|Fill..." does not allow to decide whether cell formats
should be copied or not.

You may have a look at the attached screenshot taken from the main competitor
(sorry only in german). It shows the options given after dragging with the right
mouse button.

The options are:
- copy cells
- fill row
- fill formats only
- fill without formats
- fill days
- fill weekdays
- fill months
- fill years
- linear trend
- exponential trend
- row...

Right-click drag-and-drop is not a common interaction technique and is not
possible on all computers (or it must be emulated with a key modifier.)

I would prefer a solution such as Direct Manipulation Snippets, IMO more
discoverable:
