More seriously, use a 32bit kernel.

@Jon: Which Linux distribution are you using? What is the source of your RPMs? Did you get the RPMs from your distribution? Fedora Core 4's 32-bit OpenOffice.org 2.0.0 suffers many crashes apparently due to a GCC 4.0.0 optimization bug: details are on the Redhat Bugzilla.
