There are no chances to read strings in c style placed in a binary file.
Microsoft Visual basic resolve this with fixed lenght strings. Could be a good
idea to implement these in Openoffice VB.

That seems to be more the 'Scripting Framework'-area.

latest versions of OOo, as the problem(s) may have already been addressed.

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".
