Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 89952
DataPilot: Disabled option in "Select Source" dialog disturbs user
Last modified: 2014-01-12 12:44:52 UTC
The first dialog of DataPilot shows an option "External source/interface". This option is disabled. (See the attached screenshot.) According to online help, the third option is meant for creating a DataPilot from OLAP. It is disabled since there is no implementation of the UNO service com.sun.star.sheet.DataPilotSource. Also see statement of NN here: http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=dev&msgNo=21694 Average users do not understand this. Support personell are being frequently asked questions like: "Why isn´t it possible to use external data for DataPilot?" It is possible, of course. The third option ist not necessary for that. But users become disturbed by the disabled option, that makes one beleive, using of external sources is not possible for some unknown reason. Suggestion: Either change the third option from disabled to invisible as long as the preconditions for its use are not given. Or change its label to "Other external source/interface", in order not to make users beleive the disabled option is the only way to analyse data outside of a spreadsheet. In addition clarify this context in online help.
