A two-pages Writer document showing the duplicated records after using the "data-to-fields" button none

Description smesserli 2007-09-09 18:24:33 UTC
When populating fields of a Writer document with the "data to fields" button,
the last record of a page and the first record of the next page are actually the
same (duplicated record bug).

To reproduce:
 - Create a database
 - Create a table with 1 column and ~10 records
 - Go to the File menu, New, Labels
 - Create a Labels document with 5 records on each page
 - Once the document is created, add a second page by copying the first one
 - Hit F4 (external data source)
 - Select all records of your database/table and click the "data-to-fields" button
 - Check the last record of the first page and the first record of the last
page, they are the same

This bug happens in both XP and Vista with OO version 2.2.1.

Hi smesserli,

You need to add a "Next Record" Field into the last card on page first.
f.e.:
- Use Menu VIEW / FIELD NAME
- go to the end of the first card
- copy the last field. named "next record ..."
- paste the field into the last card onto the first page.
- turn off the field names via VIEW / FIELD NAME
- use data to fields again
-> done.

Bye Marc

Thanks for you help, the "next record" field is indeed missing.
But is that a bug in OO or not?

The last card always misses the "next record" field in a new Labels document, so
adding a record at the end of the document will always lead to the same record
duplication issue.

Should I mark this issue as "invalid" nevertheless?

Cheers,
- Stéphane

I can confirm this still happens in OOo version 3.0. Question still remains
should this issue be marked as invalid?

Not a bug IMHO.

You don't need to copy the page to print more labels, you could simply print one
page twice.

And to print e.g. 100 datasets, it is also not neccessary to create so many
pages to hold the 100 datasets. When using Print (since the document contains
fields, OOo asks whether you want to do a mail-merge print, answer yes) and
selecting more datasets, then OOo will not print duplicate entries, it will
automatically assume "next dataset" at the end of the document (i.e. the one
page in the document).

So: no bug IMHO, resolving worksforme.
