Description uksafetynet 2006-03-05 12:22:00 UTC
Since loading OpenOffice suite, all thumbnail icons used to denote Word, Excel
and PowerPoint documents have been replaced with the OpenOffice icons. This
raises two issues for me:

1. why am I not asked if I want this to happen? I now have difficulty spotting
the type of document I am looking for.

2. how do I now differentiate which documents I have opened in, for example,
Writer and converted to open documents from those that are still in Word format?
I would have thought it far more sensible to only replace the MS icons as and
when I had saved them as open documents.

Cheers,

Paul Edwards

maybe installation is the place where the document bindings etc, is set up?

Sure, that you were not asked to make this changes? In the installation Wizard
there is a dialog, in which you are asked, if you want to register for MS Office
file tyes. On this page there are three checkboxes for Word, Excel and
PowerPoint. If you check this, the MS file types are registered for OpenOffice.org.
